“Paul provided me with full written details of the work he recommended, including options around the plant selection to make the price very competitive. The result is transformational! The garden looks fantastic and has already received plenty of positive comments from my neighbours.”

Garden Room FAQS

Yes, absolutely you can build a gym in your garden if you have the space available.

You can get outdoor gym equipment to be used in the open air, but the Great British weather will mean that for a large portion of the year it could be too cold or too wet to fully utilise.

In which case, building a garden room to house gym and fitness equipment is a great alternative. Installing a garden gym means that you can exercise all year round in the comfort of a fully insulated and heated purpose-built room.

What better way to escape the schlep of travelling to and from the gym, sharing equipment and expensive monthly gym membership fees.

Most garden buildings will not require planning permission is they fall under 2.5m in height. If your gym needs a raised ceiling that takes it above this height threshold, planning permission may need to be sought.

We’re well versed in the intricacies of planning permission requirements for garden buildings, and advise on this as part of our design process.

The size of your garden gym will, to some degree, be dictated by the space you have available and how you wish to equip and use your gym.

In most instances, the optimal size of a garden gym is 5m x 4m. This provides sufficient space for a range of equipment as well as an area to warm up and cool down. If space is more limited then a size of 3m x 3m is adequate for accommodating one piece of cardio equipment (a bike, cross trainer, runner or rower) and weights.

Something else to consider is the height of your garden gym to allow sufficient space for exercising and stretching. Under current guidelines, you can build up to a height of 2.5 metres without needing planning permission as long as your new building is less than 2 metres from your house or a boundary line.

If your garden gym is more than 2 metres from your house or a boundary, then it may be possible to extend the height to a maximum of four metres depending on type of roof chosen.

Yes, you can insulate a garden gym. All our garden rooms are insulated as standard to ensure your comfort all year round.
